We recently spent a few days exploring the Yorkshire coast with friends, walking from Whitby to Robin Hood’s Bay and onwards to Scarborough. With fresh sea air, expansive skies, dramatic cliffs, welcoming pubs and breath-taking views, it’s a route that has plenty to offer.

If you’re looking for inspiration for a summer adventure, this coastal walk is well worth adding to your list.

WHERE TO WALK

We followed the Cleveland Way from Robin Hood's Bay, tracing the coastline south. A highlight was stopping at the National Trust's Ravenscar Visitor Centre for tea and cake before heading back out onto the cliffs.

WHERE TO STAY

We stayed at the youth hostel in Boggle Hole, which is simple but with an unbeatable location, tucked away in an old smugglers cove. We also love the look of The Landmark Trust's Pigsty, and have heard great things about Bay Ness Farm campsite.

WHERE TO EAT

We can highly recommend fish and chips from The Fish Box in Whitby. Expect a queue, but it's worth the wait. Grab your order and find a spot overlooking the harbour, if the weather's kind.

WHAT TO SEE

If you're already on the Cleveland Way, make time for Hayburn Wyke waterfall. Hidden in woodland just off the coast path, it's a lovely spot. Nearby, The Hayburn Wyke Inn is a traditional pub with open fires and plenty of character.

WHERE TO SAUNA

Whitby Well Being sauna has sites in both Whitby and Scarborough. The perfect way to warm up after a day on the coast.
