Welcome to the first in our new series, Postcards from Harth, where we plan to share some of our favourite places. Cornwall felt like the right place to begin, and Fowey is a long-standing team favourite. There’s something special and unpretentious about this harbour town: winter light on the water, salt in the air, slow days, and a flask of hot chocolate waiting after a sea swim. If you're making plans for 2026, this might provide some inspiration.

WHERE TO SWIM

Ready Money Cove, home to the much-loved Readymoney Beach Shop, is our favourite swimming spot. Head out around the pontoon when conditions allow - sheltered enough to feel steady, wild enough to feel alive.

WHERE TO EAT

North Street Kitchen - seafood-led sharing plates in a converted boat shed. Simple, seasonal cooking in a relaxed setting has earned NSK a Bib Gourmand. There may be a queue, but it’s worth the wait.

WHERE TO BROWSE

Shrew Books is small and passionately curated - our favourite kind of bookshop. There is a strong focus on Cornish authors and settings, with plenty of nature writing to discover.

WHAT TO DO

Captain Ben's Cornwall Sea Safari is very memorable. We took the last boat of the day and saw baby dolphins, sleeping dolphins, shags and kittiwakes - with AC/DC playing as we headed back into the harbour. Boat trips run from May.

Catch the ferry across to Polruan. The picturesque village made up of winding street clings to the hillside opposite Fowey. Make sure you stop at The Lugger Inn for a pint before heading back. A perfect afternoon.

WHERE TO STAY

Right in the centre of Fowey, The Old Quay House is dog-friendly, calm and well placed. Guests must be over 8 years old.

Or, families can opt for a Mongolian yurt at Tremeer Farm, where there is plenty to keep children entertained, plus a wood-fired hot tub and sauna.
